Witney Congregational Church is an independent fellowship. Though we are independent we are not on our own. There are another 259 Congregational Churches who belong to the Congregational Federation.
Our congregation has its roots in the dissenting tradition. In 1662 a law came into force that demanded that ministers and congregations conformed to the Prayer book. 2000 ministers refused to do so and many suffered financial and physical deprivations because they were true to conscience. These ministers and their congregations were committed to believers gathering together in faith to follow Jesus Christ and to walk in his way.
Our congregation has wandered from place to place for over 353 years. Our present church building is at the crossroads of Welch Way and the High Street in the centre of the thriving market town of Witney. For us the church is not a building but consists of the people who gather for worship and live their faith wherever they are. We are a community of sixty people who have promised each other that we will walk together in faith following Jesus. We want to show our love for Jesus through the way that we love one another and care for our community. We are not perfect but a people in the making. If you are looking for a church family please come and visit us.
